[JLPT N1 Test] The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N1 Level Questions and Answers - December 2017 for Example (Part 1)

This article is mainly about answering questions about the test paper and my own understanding. (From the perspective of someone who likes watching Anime)

If you happen to have the N1 level test paper in December 2017, let's start!

The first part, word meaning, grammar

Question one, choose the most suitable one from the following 4 options.(This part is to examine your pronunciation of words.)

However, before starting, let me talk about some of my thoughts. In East Asia, such as China, their teachers will try to use Chinese to teach students some fast learning methods, because Japanese and Chinese are similar. But as an English user, there is basically no quick way to learn these, but it does not matter.

After reading my solution, you should be easy to understand.

1. 新しい販売ルートを開拓した。

The anwser is kaitaku.

The test here is whether you know the pronunciation of 開拓.

My suggestion is to use the Japanese input method provided by Microsoft. Yes, if you want to clearly understand how to read these words, you should type. The best practice is to find a friend to speak with you in Japanese, I mean typing.

The first question is actually nothing to say, just remember it.

2. 私たちは、町の復興に全力で取り組んでいます。

The answer is fukkou.

3. 書類の確認を怠ったために、問題が生じた

The answer is okotatta.

The problem arose because I neglected to check the documents.

This sentence will not be translated into:

In order to slack the confirmation of the document, the problem occurred.

Here I want to mention a bit, the usage of ために.

If you like watching Anime, you will generally find it strange. Because you would think this means "for".

正義の味方になるために戦う。

地球の平和を守るために戦う。

You should have read sentences like this more than a thousand times.

"ために" is "for" in your impression. But this time I want to break your impression.

"ために" does not only mean "for".

"ために" has another function, which is to show the cause.

The sentence before "ために" talks about the cause first, and then the result.

書類の確認を怠ったために、問題が生じた

"書類の確認を怠った" is the cause, and "問題が生じた" is the result.

Why use "cause" instead of "reason" is mainly because I think it generally causes bad results.

Okay, let's turn to the next question.

4. 本人の了承を得て、写真を掲載した。

The answer is ryoushou.

5. あの人はいつもあれこれ指図をする。

He always makes indiscreet remarks or criticisms to me.

The answer is sashizu.

6. 友人と東京の名所を巡り、旅を満喫した。

Yūjin to Tōkyō no meisho o meguri, tabi o mankitsu shita.

The answer is meguri.

I enjoyed the trip with my friends around the sights of Tokyo.

Although the words examined in this question are very simple, I want to talk about another word——Mankitsu.

Mankitsu's Kanji in Mankitsu is very difficult to write, even for Japanese user.

“旅を満喫”means "Enjoy the journey/travel", so you can infer that mankitsu actually refers to the verb "enjoy".

But it doesn't just mean "enjoy", it means "enjoy fully/completely".

So, to translate this sentence more directly, it should be:

My friend and I went to the famous spots in Tokyo together,

My friend and I fully enjoyed this tour.

Okay, this is all for today.
