Listen to part of lecture in the contemporary art class.

OK, I'm going to begin this lecture by giving new year you your next to signment assignment. Remember I said that is at some point during the master this semester I wanted you do to adtend the exzipt an exhibit at the very  Fairy Street Gallery in the right and then write about it. Well,  the exzipt exhibit that I want you to attend is coming up, it's already started in fact but it will be at the gallery for the next month, which should give you plenty of time to complete the sossignment this assignment. The name of the artist exhibiting there is Rose Fransor. Fransor's Frantzen. Frantzen's work may be unfamiliar to you since she is a relatetively relatively young artist. But she's got a very unusual style, compared to some of the artists we've looked at this term. But anyway, franson's  Frantzen's style is what you heard she herself calls realistic, impressionism Realistic Impressionism. So you've probably studyied both of these movements, seperately, the seperate movements, Realism and Impressionism in some of your art history courses. Well, who can just sum this these up?

Well, requestionism Impressionism, started in the later 19 century. eh.. Um...The basic compression's impressionist style was very different from earlier styles. It didn't to pick  depict things scenes or models exactly as they looksed. eh... Um...Impression's Impressionist painters tended to apply paint really thickly, and in big brush strokes brushstrokes,  so the texture of the canvas was rough.

Good! What out! What else? What we  were the subject?

Well, a lot of impression's artist impressionist artists painted every day sings  everyday scenes like people on the streets and in cafes a lot of nateresting lots of nature scenes, especially landscapes.

Good! So when you go to the exhibit, I really want you to take a close look at a certain painting, it's a farm scene. And you'll see it right as you entering the gallery. The reason I think this painting is so important is the desdress it stresses the impressionist aspect of franson Frantzen's style. It's an outdoor scene, an every day scene, it's kind of bleak but you can really see those broad russed stroke brushstrokes at blury and blurry lines. The colors are aren't quite realistic the sky is kind of... well, an natural unnatural pinks pinkish of yellow, and fanson's  the fence in the foreground is blue but somehow the overall scene gives an impression of a cold bleak winter day on the a farm, so that's the impression side of her work. No, Oh, and speaking about farms, that reminds me one interesting thing I read about franson Franzten is the when she first move back to iward Iowa after living abroad. She often visited this place in her town called the sellsfarm Sales Barn. And the sellsfarm Sales Barn it was basically this place where the local farmers bought and sell sold their catals cattle, their farm catals animals. And the reason franson Frantzen went there, and she latter later on with would visit other places like dentals was  dance halls, was  to observe people and waste the thing mood the ways that they moved . She really found that this helped to her work that it gave her an understanding of body movements and actions how humans move and stand still, would what their postures were like too. So what about Realism? What are the elements of the realism we should be looking for in franson's Frantzen's work?

eh...Um...Real honest, the piction depictions of the subjection matter, pretty an idealist unidealized stalldone stuff, and pretty everyday subject matter too.

Good! What other One other painting I really want you to look at is up of a young woman surrounded by punkets pumpkins. You will noticed that the woman's face is so realistic looking that is it's almost like a photograph. The woman's nose is a little last in less than perfect and her hairs is kind of messed up, this is realism.

But then the background of painting, this woman with the pumpkins is wrapped in a blanket broad thick brush stroke brushstrokes, and, it's all kinds of thick tzacking  zigzagging brush strokesbrushstrokes and lines, kind of caatical most chaotic almost when you look at it close, and they are vybain vibrant colors, is  There's lots of orange with little hints of electory electric blue picking peeking out. I find Frantzen to be a very eccessible accessible artist. I mean some artists to appreciated it them that we you have to know their life story. But here's a little bit about bro's fanson's like Frantzen. Frantzen's life anyway, she attended art school but was called told by one of her instructors that she was not good at despresion illustration that she should go into agritising advertising instead. So she took agritising advertising class and find out expit classed fine arts classes too, until she was convinced by the head of advertising agency, that her work was really good that she could be an artist.

But of course it's not as easy as that, and so Frantzen had to paint other people's potraist portraits that at places like other artists art fairs just to make money to buy paint for her more series of art work. No matter what, she never stopped painting. And now, Frantzen is doing extremly well, and her works is being shown all over the country. So, I think most of us would be dicouraged if we had to face challenges and difficulties like that, but what's important is the you keep atom at it that you don't give up that was That's what is really important to remember.

  • you your (这个真的不容易听出来)
  • this semester (这学期)
  • and then write (好的,我听成别的什么了)
  • Realistic Impressionism(现实印象派)(听的时候听成了2个单词,这也是为什么我第4题做错了)

  • Sales Barn(销售谷仓)
  • depict(描绘)(第一次看到这个)
  • bleak(苍凉)(第一次见)
  • the fence (栅栏)(翻译成栅栏,说篱笆更加容易理解)(学了defence居然不知道fence是什么真的有够草的)

  • relatively(相对比较而言)
  • it stresses 它强调
