托福备考第37天——TPO口语材料分析(TPO51)(独立口语)

上一篇:托福备考第36天——TPO听力材料分析(TPO3)(二)

Question:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Eighteen-year-olds are not mature enough to vote. Usespecific examples and details to support your opinion.

Sample1:

l don't believe that 18-year-olds are mature enough to vote.

For most 18-year-olds, they haven't started college, which means they haven't started a real adult life. lt is not until college do we begin to get ourselves exposed to a diverse culture. We started to learn expertise and form our values of the world in college. 18-year-olds are too just young to make rational and informed decisions. Voting is a serious matter that deserves more maturity.

Take myself as an example. When I was 18, l didn't know anything about politics or national policies. All l thought about was my future career and my major in college. l didn't think l was able to vote.

Sample2:

l agree with the statement that eighteen-year-olds are not mature enough to vote because eighteen-year-olds don't have enough life experience and they are unable to judge what's true or false.

During a campaign, many candidates may make a lot of propaganda videos to create a trustworthy and reliable public image. However, in these materials, it may have some made-up information which is used to mislead and attract potential voters, who know nothing of what the true story is. lf this trick could happen to adults, not to mention those eighteen-year-old youth. Therefore, it is unwise to allow eighteen-year-olds to vote and a better approach would be to let them vote when they get older and more mature, like 24-year-old or something.

Take 7.5 points as a full point.

My Answer:

I disagree with the idea that 18-year-olds are mature enough to vote. (2/7.5pt)

I feel this way for two reasons.  (1.5/7.5pt)

First, for most 18-year-olds, they haven't started college, which means they haven't started a real adult life. To be specific, lt is not until college do we begin to get ourselves exposed to a diverse culture. We started to learn expertise and form our values of the world in college. 18-year-olds are too just young to make rational and informed decisions.  (2/7.5pt)

Second, voting is a serious matter that deserves more maturity. Take myself as an example, When I was 18, l didn't know anything about politics or national policies. All l thought about was my future career and my major in college.l didn't think l was able to vote. (2/7.5pt)

Take myself as an example,或许你可以举牛顿(Isaac Newton)、爱迪生(Thomas Alva Edison)、比尔盖茨(Bill Gates)的例子,但是建议还是别举,问题在于:

第一个问题是他们太老,可能你举马斯克(Elon Musk)的例子会好一些;

第二个问题是正确地发音,你不能把别人的名字给读错;

  • be exposed to  暴露于
